Man, that bullying was hard to watch...those girls are the worst. I can’t be satisfied with them just getting off with a warning.

“Spread your legs.” Damn, lol...Ayanokouji is probably the last person I’d expect to hear those words from. Looks like he’s acquired a new chess piece though. Really liking this new development.

Ah, I was so sure class D had this in the bag after the trick Ayanokouji pulled with the SIM cards, but looks like Ryuuen was more formidable than I thought.

Nan Demo K(Nai)ves • 1 year ago

Yeah Ayanokouji doesn't seem to have those kinds of interests but he knows the weight it holds as intimidation and a threat.

Most of the time. Since his expressions never change and he keeps from doing unnecessary things which make him predictable.

Actually, I don't think he need to tell Karuizawa to spread her legs just for checking her side but it seems like he enjoys trolling people lol

Judgment526 • 1 year ago

He was probably probing her to see how far she'd go to gauge how deep her trauma was.

Dont worry he will spread someone's legs(segs) in their 2nd year arc(not shown exactly but author leaves hints of the deed being done in the Light novel)

Kei, they're dating by the time already. +there's the thing with Arisu getting pushed in the bed and letting Ayanokouji to do what he wants with her but i dont think they actually did it. unlike the one with kei

youve got my interest but im not spoiling myself im returning to this comment in like 10 years

Dgentleasian • 1 year ago

Hey uhh, what was revealed when he lifted Kei's shirt? I relooked at the scene and I dont get the revelation.

Elune • 1 year ago

It was a huge scar on her body she got from bullying of the past, the bullying she received was really harsh as far as i remember it being described in the LN.

Although yeah i did rewatch just in case and its pretty hard to tell in the scene.

Sakura's Dark Hope210 • 1 year ago

I was spot on the reason of Karuizawa's fear - a big scar

thought I'm curious about the backstory of it.

Also, time to spread them legs ! :D

MilkLander • 1 year ago

Dem bitch slaps tho

TenseiSensei • 1 year ago

They really kinda butchered the scene though.

For one, if I remember the LN correctly Ayanokoji is supposed to be colluding with the girls and also telling Hirata to call Kei down there. I mean, technically you can cut it out but it's nice background information to have on how Kei ended up where she was and why the girls knew.

Secondly, if my memory isn't failing me, Ayanokoji also plays with his belt buckle and I thought that was actually a good detail to include because it sorta shows the mental games that Ayanokoji is playing at. To further this, I thought that he was telling Kei to spread her legs while holding her up and playing with his buckle. At least, that's how I pictured it.

The problem I'm having with the anime is it really doesn't stress enough what ayanokoji is really thinking. I suppose this is because they can't really do that given an anime, but it's so crucial in the LNs. I mean, there's a whole explanation on the MILGRIM experiment when the girls are bullying Kei and the whole purpose of Ayanokoji targeting Kei is because he knows that she is going to be loyal to him given the right circumstances (breaking her down, and supposedly being the only person who she can attach herself to for safety)

Yea, idk. I mean, I love the anime, love the series. Feel like the LN is just so much better done though, though that can be said for most anime.

Edit:

There was also this huge detail I swear they completely left out and that was the fact that Ichinose didn't just see through to them swapping phones, but to them swapping phone numbers. Like Ayanokoji explained, you can't just switch sim cards but you can if you spend points. This particular factor is actually called out by Ichinose, but she doesn't actually guess the VIP despite knowing this fact. In other words, Ichinose didn't just big brain Ayanokoji once, she did it twice. She was on the same field as Ayanokoji and you could even say that he lost this time. (At least, if I remember the LN correctly)

Also, man they didn't have Ayanokoji's whole thought train of Ichinose's thighs being superb.

Worldwide Insomnia • 1 year ago

This is from LN and its not shown here; i mean his thoughts.
Ichinose: I will lead the group with outcome 1.
Ayanokoji: Am I hearing some ramblings of a mad woman
These were his true thoughts when ichinose was rambling

TenseiSensei • 1 year ago

Yea as always Ayanokoji is colder in the LN than he appears in the anime.

Ayanokoji at the particular moment doesn't think much, other than Ichinose's thighs apparently being just the best thing on earth for him.

Though even if Ayanokoji doesn't think much, the LN does make it decently clear that she's not exactly stupid and is quite astute (in this particular event)

Oh, here's a piece from the light novel (unofficial) translations about her thighs:
"Even so, I wonder why her skirt tickles a man's heart so much. This is bad, bad.
Since she was lying down, Ichinose's plump thighs were even more apparent
than usual and towards the skirt which I cannot see the inside of, I
found myself unable to take my eyes off them. If there was a
man here who did not feel that towards Ichinose, then he's either gay or
bisexual. This is a fate a healthy boy cannot escape from.
Even though I thought it was pointless, I couldn't help
but look from her thighs to her feet, then to her face, then to
her breasts, and then back down to her thighs. My gaze
flickers between them. While feeling frustrated at this age, I
was suddenly distracted by something further back to the
back of Ichinose's head."

As an anime only I think the anime did enough such that I got everything you said from the scene itself:

- They showed us Ayanokoji sending a text to Manabe Shiho, and later showed that it said 'I want to get revenge on Kei too', and since Kei mentioned Hirata's name when walking down there the only logical conclusion was that Ayanokoji asked him to do that given their amicable relationship.

- The belt buckle thing is a nice touch but I don't think it was necessary to convey what he was trying to do in breaking her down and sus her out (although I guess they could've put it in at no extra animation or time cost)

- I think cutting an explanation of the Milgram experiment was wise - it was unnecessary to explain the whole experiment when they emphasised using Ayanokoji's dialogue the point, which was that people break down under certain circumstances (and later that Kei is a parasite that attaches herself for safety which "he'll do for her better than Hirata or Machida"), and given time restraints of an anime it's sensible to allow people to look it up on their own for further reading and explanation (although maybe that's just because I already knew of the experiment prior).

- They did make it clear that Ichinose caught on to the second layer of the trap with when she made that point about everything subsequent to a lie being believed as the truth, whether she stated outright that she knew it was a sim card thing or not, I assumed that was the implication on her part since that's the only way to do that.

So yeah, as someone who didn't have information about any of this prior, every point you mentioned was something that I think the anime conveyed enough that reading your comment didn't give me any new information (not an attack, just an observation as I genuinely really appreciate it when source material readers fill me in on stuff the anime has missed)

TenseiSensei • 1 year ago

All in all, it's just that age all argument. You know, the one with the whole "Well the LN was better" because obviously it will be. Anime has to cut many details out because that's just how it is. You just can't fit all the detail in there, it'd be too much money for too little incentive.

All in all, I was just pointing out little details that made the whole scene feel more full than in the anime.

TenseiSensei • 1 year ago

Well I think the biggest ill was the Ichinose part because they stopped just a little short of the full thing.
It does make a difference, because in the LN she very clearly points out that she had thought and already tried the exact same thing, thus revealing she could've completely called out the VIP.

As far as I know, the anime only went as far as to have ichinose completely call out about the swapping of phones, but doesn't particularly go into as much detail as what the LN does in her explaining her entire knowledge about the different play. At least in the LN, it read almost as if Ichinose was on exactly the same level as Ayanokoji was.

At least when I read the LN, it made it feel like she was very sharp. Whereas in the anime, it feels like she's caught on to a large portion of what Ayanokoji is thinking, but not quite all of it.

Aside from that, criminal they didn't include some of Ayanokoji's thoughts about Ichinose's thighs. I thought that was a funny part. They have yet to show Ayanokoji's desire for thighs.

Overall, the problem that I'm having is that for some reason it doesn't feel like Ayanokoji is cold or calculated enough. It's a weird feeling, but I guess it's impossible to include everything he's thinking of. It's just, alot of the detail in the LN makes him feel different than the feeling you get from the anime.

Albeit, the anime makes great attempts to shrink things down without losing a ton of the plot.

Ankz • 1 year ago

The thighs lol. Yeah those were all fair points, the base content is all there for plot purposes but I guess they can't add the depth and description to it that would give it that impact or illicit implications for the more nuanced interactions between characters that I'm sure enhanced the scene in the LN.
